Marta Töpferová

Marta Topferova is one of the most unique singers and songwriters of her generation. Hailing from the Czech Republic, and immigrating to the United States at a young age, Marta grew up with various cultural influences.

Establishing herself in New York City in 1996, Marta’s music rapidly developed into a remarkable mix of Latin American folklore with undeniable hints of her Eastern-European roots.

In 2012, Marta returned back to Prague, in order to launch a project called Milokraj (“beloved land)”, which draws inspiration from her own cultural background. In addition to writing in Czech for the first time, Marta also set various Czech poets to music. Milokraj’s first CD was nominated for the Anděl award (Czech Grammy) in the world music category, and features an all-star line up of Eastern-European musicians.

In 2004, she began touring internationally, appearing on stages and festivals around the world, gaining well-deserved recognition for her unique artistry. The highlights of Marta’s performing career include concerts at The Blue Note, The World Music Festival in Chicago, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Jazz Festival Royale in Thailand, The Vienna Jazz Festival, The Hague Jazz Festival, The London Jazz Festival, The New Morning in Paris, Forum 2000, where she sang for former Czech president Václav Havel, and many other venues in Argentina, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Marta has been featured on numerous radio and TV programs including NPR’s “Around Noon”, BBC’s “The World”, RTVE (Spanish National Radio and TV), ARTE TV (France), Radio W (Colombia), Radio Vltava (Czech Republic) among other networks.

To date, Marta has released ten albums of primarily original material, the latest of which is “Sombras” (2024 Moravia Publishing).
